Abstract
Machine tools with hydrostatic systems (slideways & spindles) are not being developed in India and are being imported (Details presented in section 15). These machine tools have high market potential and cater to various industries including Automotive, Aerospace, Die and Mould, Energy, Medical, etc. Developing these machine tools indigenously will enable us to avoid importing such machines and also could be exported. Towards this goal, under the project titled ‘Development of hydrostatic system for machine tools’ was taken up during the phase I of the scheme ‘Enhancement of competitiveness of capital goods sector’ by AMTDC and MGTL. Under this project, the team developed and patented hydrostatic systems for both slideways and spindles. The trials and validation of the developed systems were conducted on sophisticated test benches developed for this purpose. Based on these studies, areas of improvement in both slideways and spindle systems were also identified.
However, as these systems are developed for machine tools, these systems must be tested and validated after integrating with a production-grade precision machine tool. Thus the mandate is towards taking up the activity of integration of the developed hydrostatic spindle and slideway systems in a machine tool for an end application. AMTDC has the complete know-how towards designing and developing hydrostatic systems, while MGT is capable of manufacturing hydrostatic slideways and spindles systems for grinding machines. Thus, AMTDC and MGTL will partner again in phase II of this scheme and take up the development of a production-grade precision grinding machine tool with hydrostatic systems.
