Abstract
The steel industry in India is one of the major contributors to the economy and its growth is essential for the economic development of the country. Producing high-quality steel is an essential requirement to meet the demands and drive economic development. One of the critical aspects in the manufacturing of steel is the metallographic inspection of the manufactured material at different stages of its transformation into the final product. Large area metallographic inspection is crucial for assessing either the uniformity or heterogeneity characteristics of steels. Plano-grinding machines that can produce large planar surface for metallographic inspection is an important entity. Plano-grinders are not produced in India and the steel manufacturing sector is dependent on the import of these machineries. The development of this technology is crucial to meet the application demands of the steel mill industry.
