Last Friday (June 6, 2025) you had completed a short pre-recorded video presentation on "System Thinking and Tranformational Skills" by Dr. Subbu, President, STIMS Institute Inc, San Jose, CA, USA. Subsequent to this, we had a discussion on the importance of various activities we carried out in the earlier part of the week and how they relate to System Thinking and Transformational Skills. Our discussions cultimated in how System Thinking and End to End Innovation can be used for any activity that we intend to pursue.
You have now formed yourself into the following teams.
Team A - Thirukkumaran, Jeeva
Team B - Sudharshan, Aathikesavan M
Team C - Veeresh, Karthick
Team D - Rahul, Yadunandan, Akif
Team E - Pradeep, Bitan, Alam
Team F - Gokul, Joy Thomas, Naveen
The 4 interns from AVIT Mechanical can be integrated into one of the above teams (one each).
Today and in the subsequent days of this week, you are required to brainstorm as a team to come up with several problem statements (atleast 2 to 3) that best suits the team member's core capabilities and passion. The problem statements will be refined over this week with further discussions and a tangible problem statement will be identified at the end of the week based on the principles of Transformational Skills.
Later, in the afternoon there will be a discussion session on a topic related to the above activity.
We initially came up with an idea about Autonomous Flood Rescue Drone that deliver life jackets to victims , then we go with Detection of pathhole and water logging on the road with cam and we discussed about Autonomous water surface Cleaning Robot .
The common problem statements or the common issues that we teammates observed around us was the accumulation of garbage and how much polluted it was. We recently visited the beach and observed how polluted it is. So our immediate thought that came was, if the shore was polluted to a great deal, imagine the sea inside. Therefore thought of a device such as robotic boat or a underwater ROV(remotely operated vehicle), to efficiently collect plastic waste in marine ecosystems.
Individual teammates core capabilities and their role in it is still being discussed. For the time being, we came up with this and this was our thought process.
We initially thought of a Vehicle Exhaust Silencer to filter harmful emissions, and also a vacuum-based air filter to remove toxic smoke from industries and fire accidents. At last, we came up with the idea of a hydrogen-powered water-based vehicle as a clean and sustainable transport solution.
Healthcare access in rural places is still facing difficulties, so we have come up with a solution that is an AI-powered health monitoring booth in village centers for regular health screenings
This can be implemented as a Self-Service tool that uses various sensors like an ECG sensor, SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) monitoring, Respiratory rate detection, and Body temperature measurement.
It can be made as a touch-screen, user-friendly device, and can be used for Digital prescriptions and medication reminders.
For the 1st phase, we are planning to develop a simple sample collection robot like what we used to during the pandemic, and then a virtual AI-powered robot for pitching the patient's problem and getting it solved.
Product Development is process that involves creation and commercialization of prodcut that meet specific customer needs.
Depending upon the nature of the product multiple methodologies can be employed for product development. Each methodology has its unique characteristics and can be applied based on the requirements. While there are many methodologies, some of the commonly used appraoches are as follows
Design Thinking
Axiomatic Design
TRIZ - Theory of Innovative Problem Solving
There are several other sub techniques like QFD, Scrum, Agile, Kanban, etc. Having an awareness of these techniques is essential so that they can be applied suitably.
As part of the "Common Language" familiarize yourself with the terms associated with product development and its various methodologies. Each team can create "Taxonomies" about these concepts so that it they can be readily applied during your product development as per the requirements.
After each team has built the Taxonomies, they can be merged together to have a collated set of different product development methodologies that can be used by everyone.
Discussion on these will take place on June 12, 2025.
The teams who have posted the problem statements are requested to represent these problem statements based on the System Thinking approach. Convert these into Input - Transformation - Output representations. First, identify the System Output / Technical Output of your problem statements and check their relevance interms of real world impact. Once you are confident of these outputs, the Inputs and Transformations can be worked upon.
Our idea is a Drone-Based Power Line Inspection System. It integrates drone technology, real-time imaging, and data analytics to ensure faster and safer inspections. This system reduces human risk, increases operational efficiency, and enables preventive maintenance.
